Journal 12

Over the weekend I had a basketball tournament in Derry, New Hampshire. On Sunday it was a beautiful day out, so before the championship game we were all outside of the gym laying around in the sun. All of the girls and parents were laying around, talking, laughing, and soaking up the sun. I thought that it would be a really nice picture if I was able to take a picture of my team, with the beautiful sky in the picture. I would try taking this picture two different ways. I would use a fast shutter speed to try to catch someone in the act of laughing, or throwing grass at someone. I would also try to use a high aperture to keep my team in focus, but also the background with the mountains and the sky in focus. I might use this picture in black and white, because I like the way black and white looks with people, but I would also want to use color to show the beautiful colors of the sky and background. I will most likely be able to take a picture similar to this one next weekend, since we have a tournament.

Journal 11

Over the break I went to a Keene state softball game. It was a beautiful day out. The bleachers were located behind the backstop, and I got to sit in the center, so the umpire, catcher, and pitcher were all in a line. I was sitting up sort of high, so I had a good angle. I didn't have a camera, because I left my phone in the car. In my head all I could think about was when I would take the picture and how awesome it would be. I used my friends iPhone for a couple pictures, and they came out pretty cool. But they got deleted. I would have used shutter priority and used a fast shutter speed to freeze the action of the pitcher finishing her motion, and the batter starting her swing. I think the pictures would have been awesome in film or using a digital SLR camera. I bet I will be able to go to another game sometime, and I will definitely bring my camera next time I go!

Journal 10

Yesterday I had a softball game in Hartford, Vermont. It was really cold and it was starting to get darker and darker every inning. In the 4th inning all of a sudden it started to snow. It wasn't snowing very hard, but you cold see it falling. When one of my teammates was up to bat, I was thinking about how cool it would be to take a picture of her in the act of swinging, but also make it so you will be able to see some of the snow falling. I would have shot the picture horizontally, so you would get all the way from the top of her helmet to her toes, and only focus on her. I would use a fast shutter speed to freeze her in the action of swinging. I might have to take this picture more than once, because she might not swing the first time, or might swing and miss. And i would want her hitting the ball in picture. I would use shutter priority, so the aperture would be whatever it needed to be. I'm not really sure if you would be able to see the snow in the picture, but it would be cool if you could.

Journal 9

The other day after my softball practice my coach had all of us girls sit around so she could talk to us. We all sat around her, and she stood up and talked. She was giving an emotional and inspirational talk, and all of our attention was focused on her. I looked around at my teammates and saw the emotion on everyones faces, and everyone looked like they were thinking only about what our coach was saying. We were near windows, so the lighting would have been good.  I would have used a high aperture so that everyone would be in focus. I might use this in black and white, because you would be able to see the contrast of the light hitting different parts of people. I will probably be able to take a similar picture like this when we have another talk, except it might be weird if I take a picture while she is talking.
I wouldn't need a tripod for this picture.
