Journal 17

The other night my sister was studying and doing her homework in our room. She was sitting in her bed and was surrounded by binders, books, and papers. She was using a lamp to help light the room. She also had her headphones in so she didn't notice me walk in the room. I think that this would have been an interesting picture because I thought it was funny how much stuff she was surrounded with. Also the lamp gave interesting light, because the room was kind of dark. I wouldn't use a really fast shutter speed, because the light was kind of low. I would keep this picture in color, so you could see the different colors of the papers and binders.

Journal 16

A couple nights ago there was a thunder and lighting storm. I was standing in my doorway just watching the lighting strike, and listening to the thunder. I wish I had gotten my camera out and took pictures of the lightning. I would have used bulb mode, and would have held down the shutter release until I saw lightning strike. In my backyard there are 2 big trees, and I would have framed it so that one of the trees was in full frame, and the other was half out of frame and the lighting was kind of in the middle. The lighting had been striking in the same general spot. I would have used this picture in color, because I think that the color of the lighting would be cool, and the sky would probably look cool too. The next time we have a lightning storm I am definitely going to experiment shooting with it.

Journal 15

Yesterday I was supposed to have a softball game, but it was raining and thundering so we had to go into our shed that we have. My whole team was sitting around in a circle, and we were playing different games together. I would have loved to have taken this picture, and used it for an "in the style of" for my photographer, Walter Iooss. Iooss takes pictures of athletes in action, but also focuses on the down time of athletes, and the connections between teammates. I would have taken this picture from the back of the shed, so that way I could get all of my teammates, but also would show the rainy and gloomy sky. I would have maybe tried doing a black and white with color, and just kept the purples because all of us had our purple uniforms on. I would have used a fast shutter speed to freeze the emotion on peoples faces, but I might not be able to use a fast shutter speed because it was dark, so I'm not sure if there would be enough light. I really wish I got this picture, but hopefully I'll be able to get similar pictures some other time.

Journal 14

Yesterday I had a softball game in Keene. In the second inning it started pouring. It was our turn to go out into the field, so we all ran out. Our second baseman decided it would be fun to jump in the puddle that had gathered on home plate. She was jumping up and down and the water was splashing up, but not very high since the puddle wasn't that big. Her face was priceless because she was laughing and she thought she was so funny. I was standing at shortstop just watching and laughing at her. If I had a camera I would have shot this vertically so the picture would only focus on her. I would have used a fast shutter, to freeze the water up in the air and also to freeze the expression on her face. I think that this picture would have looked the best in black and white, since there weren't very many colors. I would have needed to use a low aperture, because there wasn't any sun so I would need to let in as much light as possible.

Journal 13

After my practice on Monday, a bunch of my teammates and I went to go get some ice cream. We were eating our ice cream outside and one of my teammates was licking there ice cream and the ice cream fell off the cone. The expression on her face was priceless. She was standing up, so I would have wanted to take the picture vertically. If I knew this was going to happen, I would have put my picture on burst mode, and taken multiple pictures as the ice cream was falling to the ground. I would have used a fast shutter speed to freeze the ice cream in the air and freeze the expression on her face. I could do a cool photoshop effect, and put all of the pictures side by side so you could see the sequence of the ice cream falling. Another vantage point I would want to try to get is my teammate standing with her ice cream falling, and then get all of my other teammates dying laughing in the background. I think this picture would look good in black and white or color, and I might be able to recreate this, but it would be difficult because it would be hard to recreate the emotion on her face.

Journal 12

Over the weekend I had a basketball tournament in Derry, New Hampshire. On Sunday it was a beautiful day out, so before the championship game we were all outside of the gym laying around in the sun. All of the girls and parents were laying around, talking, laughing, and soaking up the sun. I thought that it would be a really nice picture if I was able to take a picture of my team, with the beautiful sky in the picture. I would try taking this picture two different ways. I would use a fast shutter speed to try to catch someone in the act of laughing, or throwing grass at someone. I would also try to use a high aperture to keep my team in focus, but also the background with the mountains and the sky in focus. I might use this picture in black and white, because I like the way black and white looks with people, but I would also want to use color to show the beautiful colors of the sky and background. I will most likely be able to take a picture similar to this one next weekend, since we have a tournament.

Journal 11

Over the break I went to a Keene state softball game. It was a beautiful day out. The bleachers were located behind the backstop, and I got to sit in the center, so the umpire, catcher, and pitcher were all in a line. I was sitting up sort of high, so I had a good angle. I didn't have a camera, because I left my phone in the car. In my head all I could think about was when I would take the picture and how awesome it would be. I used my friends iPhone for a couple pictures, and they came out pretty cool. But they got deleted. I would have used shutter priority and used a fast shutter speed to freeze the action of the pitcher finishing her motion, and the batter starting her swing. I think the pictures would have been awesome in film or using a digital SLR camera. I bet I will be able to go to another game sometime, and I will definitely bring my camera next time I go!
